Would a good 'ol sack of whole grain seem a bit excessive?

That saying about giving a man a fish versus teaching him to fish comes to mind.

I would go straight to the heart of the matter by giving them something educational, a book perhaps. Giving them the actual preps is only going to result in (1) them using the preps as normal groceries or whatever, or reselling or giving them away because they don't see the purpose, or possibly (2) them coming to you during SHTF cuz they finally realize they need all this stuff and you have it.

Build a man a fire, and he will be warm for the day. Set a man on fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life. Or something like that.

A couple years ago, I gave my daughters an automotive emergency kit, consisting of jumper cables, slime tire sealant, and bunch of other stuff. The whole family sat and laughed at dad's goofy gifts.

This year, she had a friend broke down, and she suddenly remembered that pack in the trunk, and got the other lady started and on to her home. Daughter told me she'd never though that gift would ever be needed.

This year, all gifts are PM.

Best gift IMO a pair of really warm gloves. A man is useless with frozen hands.
